PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the estimation accuracy when engine speed is quickly changed in this estimating, method for the generated torque based on the angular acceleration of the engine. SOLUTION: Angular velocities OMG1, OMG2 in two different zones in the compression and expansion strokes and the time interval TD1 between the time when the angular velocities OMG1, OMG2 are obtained are detected, and the first angular accelerationΔω1 is calculated based on the detected results (S2). The second angular accelerationΔω2 is calculated based on the angular velocity OMG1, the angular velocity OMG1NEW after one cycle, and one cycle time TD2 (S3). The angular accelerationΔωcorresponding to the generated torque is calculated asΔω=Δω1-Δω2 (S4).
