The boot or shoe has an elongated tongue (1) with a pouch on its underside made from a sewn-on patch (13) of a supple material to hold the loops and free ends of the lace. A pouch on the underside of the free end of the elongated tongue (10) is made from a patch of a supple and elastic textile material 3 - 5 cm long, stitched to the tongue along two sides and one transverse edge, leaving the other edge open to receive the loops and free ends of the lace once it has been tied. The end of the tongue is then tucked under to protect the lace.
