The skate comprises a frame (5) with wheels (6) and a plate for fastening to the sole (3) of a boot. The boot has an upper (7) with a one-piece lower section (7B) made integrally with the sole (3) from two different materials. One of the materials (a) is relatively supple to provide comfort for certain zones of the foot, and the other (b) is relatively rigid to provide reinforcement and mechanical strength in other zones, especially those subjected to abrasive wear. The supple and more rigid zones can be produced by over-moulding or bi-injection to form a one-piece shell of constant thickness and requiring no other reinforcement. The two materials are of the same family, e.g. polyurethane for the more supple material and a filled polyurethane for the rigid material, the filler being e.g. of ceramic, carbon or ceramide fibres, or polyurethane of 180 - 350 MPa and a fibre-filled elasthane. In addition, the two materials can be of different colours for an enhanced aesthetic effect.
