PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an automatic answering function without charging by detecting and recording the telephone number of an opposite party when there is a call during absence. SOLUTION: When a call is terminated while an automatic answering mode is set by the button of an operating part 4 in the TEL mode of the facsimile equipment, namely, in the mode of receiving no FAX in spite of call termination under the connection of a line to a telephone, the telephone number of the party is detected by a call originating side number detection circuit 2 and stored in a telephone number storage memory 7. In the case, the time of call termination is called from a clock function 10 and stored together. Since the time of calling is recorded, it can be known when the call was made. Further, since the information of the party is recorded together with the telephone number of the party, it can be easily known who made the call. Moreover, when there is a call during absence, the telephone number of the party is detected, recorded and displayed.
