PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To narrow the interval between electrodes without causing electric short-circuiting, to increase an opening ratio, to facilitate manufacturing, to reduce costs and to improve the contrast of a display screen by burying a colored insulating black matrix in the gap between plural electrodes provided in a substrate surface. SOLUTION: Plural belt-like display electrodes 31 and 32 are arranged in parallel in the opposing surfaces of two electrode substrates 11 and 12 overlapped with a specified space, a black matrix 1 is provided in the opposing surface of one electrode substrate 11, both substrates are arranged such that the electrodes 31 and 32 of the electrode substrates 11 and 12 cross each other at right angles when seen from a direction vertical to the substrate surface, and a liquid crystal cell 60 is constructed by sealing a liquid crystal layer 50 between both substrates. Then, a colored insulative black matrix 1 is buried in a space between a plurality of electrodes 31 provided in the electrode substrate 11. Thus, an opening ratio is increased, and contrast is improved. |
