PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To inform the optimum approach speed to a curve by calculating the optimum speed in approaching a curve from the curvature information on the curve to judge the propriety of a vehicle speed, and giving a warning to a driver when the vehicle speed exceeds the optimum speed. SOLUTION: A detecting range spread at a radiating angle of about 10 degrees in front of a vehicle is set by an approach estimating means 25. If the position of a curve is off the radiating angle of 10 degrees, before approaching the curve, the road is curved so that the speed of the vehicle is supposed to be decreased. When a curve is detected, the vehicle speed is recognized by the approach estimating means 25, it is judged whether the vehicle speed is a designated speed or less or not. When the vehicle speed is the designated speed or less, for example, it is judged whether the vehicle is 200 m on this side of the curve or not. In the case where it is 200 m or 500 m on this side, the optimum speed to the curvature of the curve and the vehicle speed are compared by a comparing means 28 to judge whether the vehicle speed exceeds the optimum speed or not. As a result of comparison, when it is judged that the vehicle speed exceeds the optimum approach speed, a warning command generating means 29 outputs a warning command signal. |
