PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce a memory storage capacitance required for performing pan scan display by decoding only the encoded image data, corresponding to the inside of a pan scan area and writing them in a memory based on pan scan information. SOLUTION: While a macro block address shows the outside of the pan scan area, a whole control circuit 12 repeats processing such as supplying a macro block(MB) search starting instruction to a variable length decoding circuit 15, so that the DCT coefficient of the MB outside the pan scan area in a source image is not decoded and is not stored in a decoded data area 132 of a memory 13, either. Furthermore, while the macro block address shows the inside of the pan scan area, the whole control circuit 12 performs ordinary decoding operation. Namely, processing such as supplying an MB header decode starting instruction MBHDI to the variable length decoding circuit 15 is repeated, so that only the pan scan area in the source image is decoded and stored in the decoded data area 132 of the memory 13. |
