Applies a periodic signal to the electrodes so as to limit polarisation and cable capacity effects. The polarisation is evaluated by calculating a dimensionless magnitude which represents its value. The conductivity of the solution is determined by evaluation of the real part of the current//voltage relation, which is proportional to the conductivity. The signal frequency is automatically adapted to effect new measurements: - if the conductivity value is greater than a pre-determined level and if the value representing polarisation is out of a pre-set range; - if the calculated conductivity value is less than a pre-determined value and if the product of cable capacity and of the cell is outside a set range. The measurement is invalidated if the magnitude representing the polarisation level is greater than a pre-determined step when the frequency of the measured signal can no longer be adapted.
