PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make it possible to orient the molecules of the surfaces of oriented layer by a non-rubbing treatment by irradiating org. films with polarizer pulse lasers to orient the molecules of the surfaces of the org. films. SOLUTION: The org. films are irradiated with the pulse energy much lower than the min. threshold pulse energy to induce the decomposition of the high polymer by the photoirradiation with the polarized pulse lasers, by which the molecules of the surfaces of the org. films are oriented. The blank of the org. films for forming the liquid crystal oriented layers of this case consists of an org. polymer. The org. polymer includes, for example, polyimide, polysulfone, polyamide, poly(meth)acrylate, polycarbonate, polyphenylene sulfide, polyphenylene oxide, norbornane resins, etc. The org. films are irradiated with the polarized pulse laser, by which the molecules on the surfaces of the org. films are oriented and the liquid crystal oriented layers are formed. |
