[Also in Groups XXXVIII and XL (c)] A comparator for determining if a voltage (of the order of 20 kc/s.) exceeds a predetermined level has means for rejecting transient peaks above the level and showing only a sustained increase in amplitude. The signal at 61 from a width-measuring transducer (see Group XXXVIII) is applied to the base of a commonemitter transistor 140 in conjunction with a fixed bias from 46 applied through a rectifier 134. Any negative peaks which exceed the bias are amplified and charge up a capacitor 152. After each peak the capacitor discharges through a common-base transistor 142 and charges an integrating capacitor 162 ; a succession of peaks will lift the collector potential above the bias level applied through rectifier 164 and give a voltage output via the NPN common-base transistor 144 and commonemitter output transistor 146. The control 154 can be set so that a single large pulse may or may not give an output, as desired, but an output will always be obtained for a succession of pulses from transistor 140 whatever their amplitude. |
