The system includes a transmitter (2) for transmitting a contact signal. A receiver (3) receives the contact signal of another personal contact device. A signal generator (4) produces a coincidence signal if the receiver receives a predetermined contact signal, and the user is alerted. The signal generator produces a visual and/or audible signal, or activates a vibrator or heating element to alert the user. The transmitters and receivers are radio transmitters/receivers. The contact signal may contain information such as the sex of the user, the type of contact sought (sexual adventure, leisure activities, long-term relationship etc.), and interests (sport, culture etc.)
