Cutting equipment for limp materials, e.g. leather skins

Equipment for cutting limp materials (12), e.g. leather skins or layered materials, has a table (3) with a cutting surface(14) supporting a cutting underlayer (13) for the material (12). A cutting head (5) moving above the table surface(14) has one or more cutting tools (30) which cut completely through the material(12) and penetrate slightly into the underlayer (13). A sensing arrangement (18,19) measures the distance between the cutting head(5) and table surface(14) and feeds this information to a control unit which ensures that a complete stroke of the cutter(30) penetrates into the underlayer(13) by a predetermined constant amount, independently of the applied pressure.
