The headrest adjusting mechanism has a support component, by which the headrest is pivoted on the seat back (6). It is mounted on a rotatable element (7) fitted in the seat back. The rotatable element rotates forward around an axis (3) running through the upper part of the seat back if an excessive acceleration acts upon the vehicle. The rotation is controlled by an operating device (8) actuated by a unit sensitive to the deceleration of the vehicle.
