Optical instrument, as used e.g. in rifle shooting to view targets, is fastened to a head (2) which is attached via a pivot arm (3) to a base section (4) of a stand. A first articulated joint (5) is provided between the base and swivel arm and has at least two joint axes, oriented transverse to one another, which can be adjusted and fixed separately and independently. Preferably, a rotary joint with vertical axis of rotation is provided between the pivot arm and the fastening head, particularly at least two joints (9,10) oriented transverse to one another and independently adjustable.
