Air-core winding for high power density electric machine

The air-core winding includes intermediate spaces between individual windings of a winding layer, forming channels (8) in connection with an inner and an outer insulating layer (11) and another winding layer. The intermediate spaces between individual windings are enlarged by windings of different length in the region of the end windings (12). Alternatively the spaces may be enlarged by asymmetrical shape of the end windings.
