Wetting laundry in a program-controlled drum washing machine comprises, after introducing the washing into the drum, making the drum revolve at a speed that forms a ring of washing in the drum. The drum is then stopped and wetting liquid and possibly detergent are supplied to the washing solution container. The free solution in the sump of the solution tub is heated to a preset temperature, a reversing process is introduced for the drum, and the washing is wetted by the preheated liquid. After the wetting process, the free solution in the tub sump is brought to the set end temperature of the washing program.
