The separator settles particles from a fluid and comprises a tank (1) containing baffles (3) and side containment surfaces forming a zigzag flow path for the fluid, which passes through under gravity. The flow passes up and down via the looping flow path from the inlet- (8) to the outlet connection (9). A scraper conveyor removes the deposits from the suspension, which settle out at the base.
