WA545 COMPOSITIONS

Purified WA545 proteins and processes for producing them are disclosed. DNA molecules encoding the WA545 proteins are also disclosed. The proteins, members of the TGF-.beta. superfamily of growth factors, may be used to induce, enhance and/or inhibit the information, growth, proliferation, differentiation, maintenance of mesodermal tissue, including neural and muscle tissue. The proteins may also be useful for treatment of bone and cartilage and/or other connective tissue defects and in wound healing and related tissue repair.
