A device for limiting torque, the device comprising a body, the body having a number of tool engageable surfaces (12). Slots (18) are formed in at least one tool engagable surface, a slot defining an arm (11) with respect to an adjoining tool engagable surface. The arm is elastically deformable and deflectable upon application of a force exerted on the arm. When a torque exceeding a predetermined value is applied to the body of the device during tightening, the arms (11) are deflected radially inward preventing over-tightening of the device. The invention, in a preferred embodiment, offers an advantage over existing torque limiting devices because the device is cheap and simple to manufacture, and is reusable.
