Described is a device (100; 300; 500) for cutting a continuous strip of paper (108), the device comprising a paper-feed device (102; 302) which feeds the paper (108) to the cutting device at an essentially constant speed and a cutter (104; 310). Located between the feed device (102; 302) and the cutter (104; 310) is a paper-hold device (106; 502) which restrains the paper (108) so that a position can be defined on the paper (108) at which the cutter (104; 310) cuts it. Also fitted is a buffer device (120; 316) located between the feed device (102; 302) and the hold device (106; 502) and which accommodates the length of paper (108) which accumulates in the form of a loop (170) while the paper (108) is being held. The buffer device (120; 316) comprises a device (122, 124a, 124b; 318, 320) designed to guide the paper which accumulates and a device (124c, 188; 318) designed to damp down oscillations in the accumulating paper. |
