At least one end of an insulating cylinder 5, separating the windings of a transformer and made of layers of solid insulating material, is split into layers 6, 7, 8, 9, 10 which are bent over to form flanges lying over an electrostatic screening ring 4 at the end of winding 2, a conducting or semi-conducting screen 12 being continued into flange 6 and connected either to ring 4, as shown, or to winding 2. Pressure rings 14, 15, 16, 17 are disposed at such a distance from cylinder 5 that when ring 4 moves downwards with shrinkage of the insulation between the turns of winding 2, flange 12a of screen 12 can bend smoothly in a double curve and splitting of the insulation in flange 6 at bend 19 is avoided. A ring of elastic supporting strips may be provided inside bend 19. An earthed screen 11 may also be provided and both screens may be of metal or carbon. |
