Method of operation for the engine of a vehicle with idling speed regulation

The method involves controlling the idling speed via an electronic controller according to boundary conditions, whereby the heat given off by the engine is used to heat the vehicle. As a boundary condition a heating requirement is taken account of as an increase in revolution rate. The revolution rate, esp. the idling speed, is only increased when an increase in revolution rate does not arise anyway as a result of another boundary condition. A freely selectable heating demand above a minimum value can be taken into account.
