PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a thermoplastic resin compsn. which gives a molded item excellent in mechanical properties, heat resistance, and external appearance by compounding a thermoplastic polyester resin, a polycarbonate resin, and a specific clay composite in such a manner that the clay composite is dispersed with a specified average layer thickness or lower. SOLUTION: This compsn. contains a thermoplastic polyester resin, a polycarbonate resin, and a clay composite. The composite is prepd. by introducing a silane coupling agent of the general formula: Yn SiX4-n (wherein n is 0, 1, 2, or 3; Y is a 1-25C hydrocarbon group optionally substd.; X is a hydrolyzable or hydroxyl group; and when n or 4-n is 2 or higher, then each of n Y's or (4-n) Y's may be the same as or different from others) into a silicate compd. and is dispersed in an average layer thickness of 500Åor lower in the compsn. The silicate compd. is selected from among smectite clay minerals, swellable mica, and kaolin clay minerals.
