PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a recorder and a method for controlling the recorder capable of effectively executing a recovery operation of a recording head by controlling a timing for supplying the ink to an ink housing means that supplies the ink to the recording head and of reducing a consumption quantity of the waste ink and the time therefor. SOLUTION: A residual quantity of ink housed in each of a plurality of ink cartridges is detected. When the ink cartridge having no residual ink is detected, it is judged whether or not there is the ink cartridge of which residual quantity is not greater than a predetermined one. As a result of the judgment, when there is the ink cartridge, information for alerting a user that the ink cartridges have to be refilled with the ink is indicated on a display section 2. |
