PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To efficiently and inexpensively obtain the subject compound useful as e.g one component ofα-olefin polymerization catalyst in high yield by reaction between a substituted cyclopentadiene, a nucleophilicity-imparting agent, a crosslinking agent, a base and a metallic component. SOLUTION: This crosslinked metallocene useful as e.g. one component ofα-olefin polymerization catalyst is obtained efficiently and inexpensively in high yield by reaction between a substituted cyclopentadiene having an azulene skeleton bearing a hydrocarbon group at 2-site, a nucleophilicity-imparting agent of formula I [R<1> is a (halo)alkyl or (substituted) aryl; M<1> is a group I alkali metal, group II alkaline earth metal, aluminum or copper; X<1> is a (halo) alkyl, (substituted)(aryl, halogen or the like; Y<1> is lithium; (m) is 1 or 2; (n) is 0 or 1; (p) is 0, 1 or 2], a crosslinking agent of formula II [R<2> and R<3> are each a (halo)alkyl or (halo)aryl; M<2> is carbon or silicon; X<2> is a halogen], a base, and a metallic component such as a zirconium compound.
