PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make the display of characters or figures prominent by allowing the display to visually float up by the difference in brightness between the display parts and their peripheries by drawing the display of characters or figures with narrowly and deeply carved V-shaped lines without coloring the display part. SOLUTION: The polish-finished stone 10 is coated with glue 40 on its surface and a sheet of rubber 50 is releasably adhered to the surface. Characters for the display are drawn on the upper face of the rubber plate, the edge parts of the character display 20 is cut off with a knife or the like and the rubber is peeled off. The surface 11 of the stone 10 exposed from the rubber plate 50 is carved by blowing the fine particles of crushed metal with a particle sizes of 200-700μm with a pressure of 5-8 kg/cm<2> , so that the depth of the V-shaped groove may become larger than I its width to form the V-shaped grooves 12 and finally the rubber plate 50 is peeled off. Accordingly, the surface 11 of the stone 10 reveals deep reflection color, while the groove bottom of the V-shaped groove forms the black shade, thus the character is made prominent.
