PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain the subject coating composition reduced in the generation of fume on its thermal curing treatment and giving coating films excellent in performances by neutralizing an amino resin-modified polymer obtained by reacting an amino resin with a copolymer comprising a specific radical- polymerizable compound having a hydroxyl group at the terminal, anα,β- ethylenically unsaturated carboxylic acid and one or more other radical- polymerizable monomers. SOLUTION: This coating composition having a solid content of 30-60 wt.% is obtained by neutralizing it with a base (e.g. an organic amine, ammonia) an amino resin-modified polymer having a number-average mol.wt. of 20,000-50,000 and obtained by reacting an amino resin (e.g. an alkyl-etherified melamine resin) with a copolymer comprising 5-40 wt.% of a radical- polymerizable compound of the formula [R<1> is H, methyl; (i) is 2 or 3; (j) is 2-60], 1-20 wt.% of anα,β-ethylenically unsaturated carboxylic acid [preferably (meth)acrylic acid], and 40-94 wt.% of one or more other radical-polymerizable monomers [e.g. an alkyl (meth)acrylate]. |
