SILVER OXIDE AND ITS PRODUCTION

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To increase the packing amt. of a silver oxide for a batter by heating and treating particulates in an alkali soln. under pressure to form the silver oxide having a bulk density above a specified value and having the specific surface and/or disintegration amt. in a specified range. SOLUTION: This silver oxide consists of simple grains having a 5-30μm average diameter and has a >=1.5 g/cm<3> bulk density, a 0.04-0.5 m<2> /g specific surface (BET value) and/or a <=15% disintegration amt. Preferably, the silver oxide has a grain size distribution in which the ratio of the peak grain diameter to the average grain diameter is <=2. The single grain consists preferably of a lumpy polyhedron. The initial carbonic acid concn. of the silver oxide is <=500 ppm and the carbon dioxide adsorption amount is <=1,000 ppm. The particulates of silver (per)oxide are treated, in an alkali soln. under heating and pressure to make the particulates grow or the silver salt is directly hydrolyzed with the alkali soln. under heating and pressure without using the particulates of the silver (per)oxide.
