PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce the degree of surface waviness after recording an image by providing an ink receiving layer on a base sheet composed essentially of natural pulp having a sheet density above a specific value. SOLUTION: The ink jet recording sheet is formed of a paper composed essentially of natural pulp having a sheet density above 1.01 g/cm<3> as a base sheet and an ink receptive layer coated at least on one of the faces of the base sheet. The base sheet is of a sheet density of 1.01 g/cm<3> or more but is preferably of a sheet density above 1.03 g/cm<3> and further, is more preferably of a sheet density above 1.05 g/cm<3> . The ink receptive layer is made qualitatively uniform by providing the ink receptive layer on the base sheet, and the ink jet recording sheet is obtained which shows superior development properties and clarity and is almost free from the surface waviness of the sheet even after drying a recorded image. The reason is that when the base sheet is made so that its sheet density is 1.01 g/cm<3> or more, the difference in the locally generated unevennesses of the surface is extremely insignificant due to the almost non-presence of a gap between the pulps. |
