<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a new compound having a new smell note, toxicologically harmless, useful as an odorant and a product required everyday in house, such as cosmetic, detergent, cleaner, etc. SOLUTION: This compound is shown by formula I (R<1> is H and (n) is 1-4; R<1> is CH3 and (n) is 1-3) such as 12-methyl-9-oxa-14-tetradecanolide. The compound of formula I is obtained by subjecting an aliphatic dihalide of formula II ((n) is 1-4; X is Br or Cl) and a diol of formula III (R<1> is H or CH3 ) in the presence of a strong base (e.g. sodium hydroxide) to Williamoson reaction to give a dimer condensation product and reacting the product with a compound of formula IV (R<2> is an alkyl, preferably methyl or ethyl) to give a hydroxy malonic acid ester of formula V, without intermediate purification, saponifying the ester by a new one-pot reaction and polymerizing the resultant substance by decarboxylation.</p> |
