PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make possible to extract a 3-D interresting area correctly and efficiently from multiple tomogram data by the MPR processing of volume data as tomogram data and preparing cross sectional images for the same width as the volume data in an optional direction and carrying out area extraction. SOLUTION: Image data 1 as a source of extraction of an interesting 3-D area are made volume data prepared in advance on the basis of multiple tomograms concerning an optional direction of a subject. And a cross sectional image preparation means 3 prepares a cross sectional image in a specified cross sectional position by a cross sectional position specifying means 2 separately from the volume data, an interesting area setting means 5 sets an interesting area on a cross sectional image. Furthermore, an extracted cross section automatic preparation means 4 prepares an extracted cross sectional image parallel to a cross sectional image for the width of target volume data, a specified cross section display means 7 displays extracted cross sectional images, changing them in order. The extracted area display means 6 displays a binary image of the interesting area on an original image in a manner of superimposing thereon.
