PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain the subject compound to be used as, e.g. a catalytic component for olefin polymerization, by reaction between a cyclopentadiene compound and an organoalkali metal compound followed by reaction with a specific transition metal compound in the presence of an amine compound. SOLUTION: This transition metal complex of formula III useful as, e.g. a catalytic component for olefin polymerization is obtained in high yield on an industrial scale by reaction between a cyclopentadiene compound of formula I [T is a group 14 atom; R<1> and R<2> are each H, a halogen, (substituted) 1-20C alkyl, (substituted) 6-20C aryl, (substituted) 1-20C silyl or the like; R<5> is H, a (substituted) 1-20C alkyl (substituted) 6-20C aryl or the like; J is O, S, a (substituted) amino, or the like; Cp<2> is a cyclopentadiene skeleton] and an organoalkali metal compound, alkali metal hydrogen compound or organomagnesium compound followed by reaction with a transition metal compound of formula II (M is a group IV transition metal atom; X<1> to X<4> are each the same kind as R<1> ) in the presence of an amine compound.
