PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a resin dispersion which has good weatherability, is stable and comprises particles of very small diameters by the emulsion polymerization of essential components comprising a radical-polymerizable ethylenically unsaturated monomer, an ultraviolet absorber having radical-polymerizable unsaturated double bonds in the molecule, an emulsifier, a polymerization initiator and water. SOLUTION: It is desirable that the oil drops of dropping monomer in the production have a diameter of at most 0.5μm and that the mean particle diameter of the aqueous resin dispersion is at most 110μm. It is desirable to use a carboxylated monomer, as the radical-polymerizable ethylenically unsaturated monomer, in an amount of 0.5-5 wt.% based on total monomers. Examples of the ethylenically unsaturated monomer include methyl acrylate, styrene and vinyl acetate. Examples of the carboxylated monomer include acrylic acid, maleic acid and divinylbenzene. An example of the ultraviolet absorber having at least one unsaturated double bond is a benzotriazole compound represented by the formula.
