PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an image recorder, e.g. an ink jet printer, having limited number of inks to be used in which high quality color recording can be effected. SOLUTION: Recording heads for twelve colors of Y1 -Y2 , M1 -M2 , C1 -C4 and Bk1 -Bk4 are prepared, as a recording head group 26, on the outside of an image recorder. Six recording heads 22 can be carried on a carriage 21 and inks up to six colors can be used simultaneously. A print driver decomposes the color of an image data to be recorded and determines an optimal combination of ink colors based on the color decomposition results. A user replaces the recording head on the carriage according to an instruction from the print driver. The print driver performs color decomposition of the image data again depending on the ink color to be used and forms a color image on a recording paper 25 by driving each recording head. |
