<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an occupant detection system capable of accurately detecting a separated condition between seated occupants and a door and also controlling the timing of the operation of a side air bag device based on the detected results. SOLUTION: An occupant detection system is provided with a substantially one antenna electrode E1 arranged inside a door, an oscillating circuit 10 to generate a minute electric field around the antenna electrode, a current detection circuit 23 which detects a current flowing from the oscillating circuit 10 from the antenna electrode based on the minute electric field generated around the antenna electrode, a control circuit 17 which detects a separated distance between occupants and the door based on the output signal from the current detection circuit 23, and a side air bag device 18A which is arranged at a door part and has a function to expand the air bag based on the collision of the occupants to the side part of a vehicle. Also it sends the data based on the detected results by the control circuit to the side air bag device, and sets the air bag of the side air bag device to either of the expandable or nonexpandable condition.</p> |
