PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make a gradational controlling possible with a single driving waveform and, at the same time, realize the speeding-up of printing by a method wherein the driving signal generating circuit of a laminate type piezoelectric element and the controlling circuit for controlling the actions with a selecting circuit of piezoelectric element pieces, to which the driving signal generated at the driving signal generating circuit is applied, are provided. SOLUTION: In this device, an ink chamber 30 is composed of a base 50, a nozzle plate 20 and a diaphragm 40, on which a piezoelectric element 10 is tightly fixed so as to elastically deform the diaphragm 40 in response to the deformation of the piezoelectric element 10 in order to change the volume of the ink chamber 30 and consequently discharge ink drops from a nozzle 25. Further, electrodes a1, b2, c3 and d4 are provided on the top surface of a piezoelectric element piece 10a of the piezoelectric element 10, between the piezoelectric element pieces 10a and 10b, between the piezoelectric element pieces 10b and 10c and between the piezoelectric element pieces 10c and 10d and a common electrode v5 is provided on the rear surface of the piezoelectric element piece 10d so as to connect selective signals (a)-(d) and a driving signal (v) to respective electrodes. In addition, the driving signal (v) synchronized with a printing signal is generated at a driving signal generating circuit so as to receive printing data containing a gradational information in order to selectively drive switching elements so as to control the switching elements by a controlling circuit. |
