PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To efficiently produce a paper with a watermark without using a specific roll with a pattern by a simple process, by laying a base paper on a base material having a pattern, treating the paper under a specified condition, and copying the pattern of the base material on the base paper. SOLUTION: This paper with a watermark is produced by laying one or more base papers 7 on a base material 8 having a pattern and 50-5,000μm thickness, running the base papers with the base material through a nipping part consisting of both metal rolls 3 and 3 under the pressurizing condition of 200-3,500 kg/cm linear load, separating the base paper 7 from the base material 8 to copy the pattern of the base material 8 on the base paper 7. Preferably, the base material 8 having the pattern has an endless shape, and after the base material 8 is separated from the base paper 7, the base material 8 is run through the nipping part consisting of the metal rolls 3 and 3 in combination with the base paper 7 again.
