PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain the subject composition capable of giving a ceramic having low dielectric constant and low dielectric loss and also having thermal expansion coefficient controllable over a wide range, by incorporating a multiple oxide containing Zn and Si in a specific ratio with Li2 O, B2 O3 and at least one kind of alkali metal. SOLUTION: This low-temperature-sinterable ceramic composition is obtained by incorporating 80-99.5 wt.% of the main component composed of 14.9-98 wt.% of SiO2 and 1-84.9 wt.% of ZnO with 0.1-15 wt.% of B2 O3 , 0.1-10 wt.% of Li2 O and 0.1-10 wt.% of at least one kind of oxide of alkali metal selected from the group consisting of K, Na, Cs and Rb. This composition is sintered at 800-1,000 deg.C for 0.1-5 h to obtain the other objective low-temperature-sintered ceramic consisting of quartz-type crystal phase alone or consisting mainly of quartz-type crystal phase and willemite-type crystal phase, having a dielectric constant of <=7 in the frequency range 1 to 60 GHz, a dielectric loss of <=30×10<-4> , and a thermal expansion coefficient of 1.5-17 ppm/ deg.C at temperatures ranging from room temperature to 400 deg.C. |
