The invention relates to providing a vertical expansion joint in a refractory lining, where the lining is made from refractory casting material. In the previous solutions it has been indispensable to saw the formed plywood used in manufacturing refractory linings into small pieces, making the manufacturing of the lining slow and cumbersome. Further, it has not been possible to reuse the moulds, and at the vertical corners, acute angles of 90 degrees were formed which were easily damaged. In the use according to the invention, the vertical expansion joint material 4 has been sealed and fastened to the outer mould material 3 by means of a particular fastening profile 5, fastened to the outer mould material, said profile enabling rounding of the vertical corners and reduction of risk of damages. Further, form plywood may be used in as long strips as permitted by the dimensions of the plywood, and the plywood may be reused. The use according to the invention is utilised e.g. in mounting of a refractory lining at the membrane tube wall in a power plant boiler.
