The procedure involves coupling at least one driving wheel at least indirectly to an electric motor. An electrical machine that can be run as a generator is mechanically coupled to an IC engine, and the motor and generator are coupled by an intermediate voltage circuit. In an operating state, determined by operation of the IC engine and the car being stationary, the generator is driven by the engine and is controlled at least indirectly to feed a definable electric power into the intermediate circuit. At least part of the power fed in is used to supply a definable current to the motor windings and is used to heat up a coolant in a coolant circuit assigned to the engine.
