The instrument (1) includes a display arrangement (5) which indicates functions of the instrument, and a first operating element (110), through whose activation an input mark is movable on the display device in at least one direction, so that a function presented on the display device can be selected. A second operating element (115) is provided, through whose activation a function selected on the display device is activated. The display device is divided in at least one first area (65) for the display of operating data, and at least one second area (70) for the display of data and/or data display functions, whereby the division depends on a currently selected operation mode.
