发明名称 Electrostatic recording of information
摘要 888,438. Selective printing processes. KOLB, O. K. (Haloid Co.). March 19, 1958, No. 8760/58. Classes 100(2) and 100(4) [Also in Group XIX] An electrostatic computor output printer comprises a first charging station 19 which charges a dielectric web 25 up to a level just below break-down and a second station 20 which selectively applies a low amplitude pulse through electronic coincident circuit means to a series of aligned electrodes, e.g. 55 spaced from a counter-electrode 53. As shown in Fig. 4, alphabetical information is printed, the character elements are on a continuously rotating drum and by the use of digital computor techniques incorporating a marker 51, a counter 59, a matrix 60, and a character marker 62 controlling a character counter 65, and a comparison circuit 66, the appropriate gates 61 are operated at the correct moment for an image to be formed between electrodes 55 and the rotating drum forming the counter-electrode. In this arrangement the drum may be placed at a slight angle relative to the web, or the character rings may be displaced relative to one another to compensate for slanting effect due to the time required to step the matrix 60. In a form described with reference to Fig. 5, not shown, simultaneous printing in all columns is achieved by the use of a register which stores all the characters for a line and in a single revolution of the drum, characters are transferred to the paper in random fashion, i.e. irrespective of digit position, until all images in one line are made. The printer may also (see Group XIX) form a binary record by selectively energizing "1" or "0" electrodes or forming dots as the web is fed so that a curve, representing voltages &c. is made. Inking. After the electrostatic image is made at the second station 20, Fig. 2 the web 25 goes through a development mechanism 28, where the images are rendered visible by depositing a liquid ink on a finely divided material such as an electroscopic pigmented resin powder, which adhers to the charged parts of the web. The visible images are subsequently heated in an oven to dry the ink or fuse the resin in a fuser 30.
