The invention relates to a device for carrying out atomic absorption spectroscopies, comprising a light source and an electrothermic atomiser. According to the invention, the monochromatic light of a laser diode is radiated through a sample, said sample being electrothermically vaporised by means of a sample support in the form of a tungsten spiral or a tungsten boat. A detector is then able to determine the element-specific absorption of the light by the free atoms formed by vaporisation.
