The drive has a drive shaft (20) which is extendible and carries a propeller at its end (14). There is a normal position, in which the propeller is mounted below the hull (11) and an emergency position , in which the propeller is extended beyond the rear transom line of the vessel. The shaft is extendible axially. The extendible shaft can have a movable section (21) to which the shaft can be mounted and a fixed inner section (22).
