Railway track ballast bed construction method

The ballast bed is solid and dense. Hollow spaces within the bed are filled with a filler material, which aids drainage. The material remains adhesive during processing, and consists of granules of different sizes to adapt to the different hollow sizes within the bed. The material is a solid stone chip mixture to accommodate high pressure loads. The material may be an open-pored bulk material, e.g. lava slag, swelling clay, and blast furnace slag, for sound absorption. The filler forms a permanent compound during hardening of the adhesive, which may be a thermoplastic adhesive.
