<p>Described is the modulation of ischemic cell death. In particular, pharmaceutical compositions are provided comprising a protein having the biological function of acidic fibroblast growth factor (aFGF) and/or a nucleic acid molecule encoding said protein having the biological function of aFGF and/or an activator of stress - activated protein kinases (SAPK) and/or a nucleic acid molecule encoding said activator of SAPK which are particularly useful for treating, preventing and/or delaying ischemic cell death. Furthermore, methods for treating, preventing and/or delaying ischemic cell death comprising contacting organs, tissue or cells with a protein having the biological function of aFGF and/or a nucleic acid molecule encoding said protein having the biological function of aFGF and/or an activator of SAPKs and/or a nucleic acid molecule encoding said activator of SAPK are described.</p> |
