The invention relates to a method for processing control signals in a mobile station of a mobile telecommunications system. According to the inventive method, control signals are received from a current base station and from other base stations. The movement of the mobile station is measured in said mobile station and a measuring signal characterising the movement of the mobile station is produced. A decision is then made in relation to the frequency of reception and/or measurement of the reception level of control signals from other base stations based on said measuring signal. According to a second variant of the inventive method, the drift of the control signals received from the current base station is measured and a measuring signal characterising said drift is produced. A decision is then made in relation to the frequency of reception and/or measurement of the reception level of control signals from other base stations based, on this measuring signal.
