Pouch for collection, absorption and retention of human bodily fluids

This method makes use of a pouch (1) in the collection and absorption of human bodily fluids. The pouch is formed by an expansible, fluid-permeable, insoluble material. Its volume encloses and retains a hydrophilic material (2) of equivalent volume when wet. On contact with the bodily fluid, this swells up and is transformed into a soft gel. This takes place without tearing or bursting of the pouch, which retains the gel. Preferably the pouch is made of non-woven paper, woven, paper, perforated plastics film or porous plastics film. The hydrophilic material is a polymer. The device is implemented in various forms, especially as a bed- or portable urinal.
