A cooling body for clamping in open-air switching plants and overhead conductors which are needed for connecting, branching-off and fastening of cables, consists of several (preferably three) cooling segments (1) which are assembled concentrically around the cable, thereby giving an approximately rotationally symmetric (preferably ball-shaped) whole body with impressed cooling ribs (7). For the assembly on the cable, a clamping region lying in the edge region of the cooling body is present and the assembled cooling body encloses the cable axially, making contact in the clamping region. The cooling body has a funnel region (6) near the clamping region (2) in which the tensioned cable can move freely.
