Propylene copolymers used as modifier for polyolefin resin to increase flexibility

Propylene copolymers (I) with 4-20C alpha -olefin(s) and ethylene are prepared in the presence of an olefin polymerization catalyst containing components (A), (B) and/or (C). The components are (A) transition metal complex(es) of formulae (IIA), (IIB) or (IIC); (B) aluminium (Al) compound(s) selected from an organo-Al compound E<1>aAlZ3-a (IIIA), a cyclic aluminoxane (-Al(E<2>)-O-)b (IIIB) and a linear aluminoxane E<3>(-Al(E<3>)-O-)cAlE<3>2 (IIIC) of the given formulae; and (C) a boron compound of formulae BQ<1>Q<2>Q<2> (IVA), G<+>(BQ<1>Q<2>Q<3>Q<4>)<-> (IVB), (L-H)<+>(BQ<1>Q<2>Q<3>Q<4>)<-> (IVC); in which M<1> = a group IV transition metal atom; A = a group XVI atom; J = a group XIV atom; Cp<1> = a group with an anion of the cyclopentadiene type; X<1>, X<2>, R<1-6> = hydrogen (H), halogen, alkyl, ar(alk)yl, substituted silyl, alkoxy, ar(alkyl)oxy or di-substituted amino; R<1-6> may be combined to form a ring; X<3> = a group XVI atom; E<1>, E<2>, E<3> = hydrocarbyl; Z = H or halogen; 0 a <= 3; b /- 2; c /- 1; B = trivalent boron; Q<1-4> = halogen, (halo)hydrocarbyl, substituted silyl, alkoxy or di-substituted amino; G<+> = an (in)organic cation; L = a neutral Lewis base; (L-H)<+> = a Bronsted acid. Also claimed are (i) thermoplastic resin compositions containing (I); and (ii) the production of (I) by polymerizing the monomers in the presence of one of these catalysts.
